How Do I Fix SFTP "Permission Denied" Errors?

Problem

I connected with SFTP to the server and tried to place a file and got a "permission denied" error. What's up?

Solution

Files need to be placed within the proper directories. When you first connect to the server with FTP you will be at the /httpdocs directory. This directory is not writeable on purpose. Navigate inside that directory/folder and place files inside the proper directory:

File Locations

Themes

/httpdocs/wp-content/themes

Plugins

/httpdocs/wp-content/themes

Misc Files and Images

/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads
