Aurora RDS is Amazon’s proprietary MySQL-compatible relational database engine. With some added optimization and tuning, we can achieve higher performance and maximize availability for your WordPress database.
From a speed comparison alone, Amazon Aurora is advertised as delivering 5x the throughput over vanilla MySQL. We did our own benchmark testing and found Aurora to be the superior contender when benchmarking Aurora on our own pool of hosted WordPress sites.
Smarter, Durable Storage
At the heart of Aurora’s prestige is its evolved storage layer. Unlike a typical storage area network (SAN), data is replicated across six different database web nodes within three distinct Availability Zones (AZ). Resistant to major power outages, natural disasters, and network interferences a single physical datacenter is prone to — this Multi-AZ cluster is designed to expand the durability and availability of your data.
Amplified Availability with Aurora
Flexibility is another key feature adding to Aurora’s impressive stamina. Each database node operates as either a primary (writer) instance, or a secondary (read replica) instance. With the option to add additional Aurora replicas, customers can benefit from High Availability across multiple failover targets.
So how does this all play out? Say, for example, your CPU and Memory start to reach critical usage levels — we can quickly resize your read replica, boost capacity, and perform a failover while we put our expert thinking caps on and address the root issue.
The beauty of Amazon Aurora lies in its reliability across a range of workloads and sizes. With built-in health checks, fault tolerance, and constant real-time backups to S3, Aurora becomes the preferred choice for scaling your data quickly and durably.
